Posted on April 12, 2012

The 15,000 – acre Vinton Furnace State Experimental Forest is one of the Ohio’s best kept secrets.   It is Ohio’s newest state forest and one of the premier research and demonstration forests in the United States.  Here’s the best part; it’s right in our back yard near McArthur.

“A Day in the Woods” is a cooperative educational effort designed to introduce woodland owners and folks with an interest in forestry and natural resources to this wonderful place.  “A Day in the Woods” is free to the public and is a great opportunity to learn about the many resources available to woodland owners like you in SE Ohio.  So if you’d like to learn more about your woods or if you are curious about what’s happening at the Vinton Furnace State Experimental Forest, join us on April 14th between 10 am and 4 pm for “A Day in the Woods”.

The morning activities will include a brief presentation on the history of the Vinton Furnace State Experimental Forest, and a wide variety of staffed displays from numerous partnering agencies and organizations who serve woodland owners like you.  A Complimentary lunch will be followed by wagon tours featuring the woodland owner demonstration area, research at the Vinton Furnace, and the iron furnace and Belgium coke ovens.
